All serious athletes know the adage “practice makes perfect.” Dedication, hard work and persistence will always help in the long run — just as they have for Palm Beach Atlantic University’s senior softball pitcher, Ashley Jones.
Jones’ outstanding accomplishments have been recognized and honored not only this season, but also many times over the past four years.
“It is awesome to see her hard work paying off,” Head Coach Kimmy Bloemers said. “She deserves every single award and positive recognition.”

Although PBA is relatively new to NCAA Division II, Jones was recognized as a National Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 22-28. The award was a first for PBA athletes.

The Sailfish dominated the contest, coming away with a run-ruled 9-0 win in the first game and a tighter 5-4 win in the second.
Starting pitcher and captain Ashley Jones delivered a sizzling 11 strikeouts in the first game. Northwood could barely keep up with only one hit.

After finishing as runners up in 2008, Palm Beach Atlantic University’s softball team captured the program’s first ever national championship this past spring season.
With a second place finish the previous season, head coach Kimberly Bloemers knew her team had the ability to go all the way.
“We knew at the beginning of the season that we were working towards this,” said Bloemers. “The whole season was in preparation for the tournament.”
Two girls walking out of Desantis family chapel.
Girl #1: What’s the deal with Culture Week? Don’t they think we have enough culture already?
Girl #2: I know! If they would just go into any boys’ dorm room, they would find culture in every sneaker.
From a certain Bible professor, speaking to his class on his claim to fame.
Professor: “I want to be tagged in a story with the phrase ‘rugged good looks’ attached to my name. Then I will know that I have made it; I want to be in the Beacon or even the Bacon for that matter.
*Correction: previously said, “I have rugged good looks that’s now I know I have made it. I know I’ve made it if I make it in the Beacon… or the Bacon for that matter.”*
Two girls working in the Student Publications (the Beacon office) discussing headlines for this week’s issue:
Girl #1: “I have an idea for a headline”
Girl #2: “Really? What is it?
Girl #1: “Well I found it on the internet but here it is: ‘Everyone says that softball and baseball are the same things, but who plays with the bigger balls?’ What do you think?”
