Palm Beach Atlantic University’s baseball team has begun pre-season warm-up games.
On Friday, Oct. 9, the Sailfish played Palm Beach Community College, and this past Friday and Saturday were their final two pre-season games.
The team looks to have great potential this year as it wraps up its fall training.
Last year’s baseball team won the regional championship for the NCAA. This was an extremely important accomplishment for the team as they continue to grow.
Despite the fact that the team was relatively small last year, they still received the title. The team has added both depth and talent this season to strenthen the squad even more.
With new Head Coach and Hall of Fame member Gary Carter, the team hopes to go even further this year.
The players include: Vasilios Mila, Justin Sizemore, Graham White, Mike Eissey, Scott Urbanek, Billy Schmidt, Aaron Rodewald, Carlos Hechavarria, Jesse Gibbs, Logan Thomas, Buddy Fisher, Neil Hardon, Dan McIldon, Keith Clabaugh, Chad Volbert, Tony Livelsberger, Stephen Fowler, Oscar Cuevas, Taylor McBath and Martin Suarez.
Key players for the team include pitcher Logan Thomas, slugger Vasilios Mila and pitcher Buddy Fisher.
The season officially begins in February.
The team has been going through a lot of hard workouts and practices almost every day, but this is a sacrifice they are willing to make.
“It’s a lot of work and a very big commitment, but in the end all our hard work pays off,” said pitcher Billy Schmidt.
The team is committed to the game, and because of their dedication the dream of being on top can be a reality this season.
When asking Billy Schmidt what he would be looking forward to other than winning the championship, he said, “When the athletic complex gets built with our own baseball stadium and seating . . . that would be awesome.”
The team also hopes PBA students will come out and support them this season. A good attendance at games and a show of school spirit will help the team on their search for a National Championship.
